Consumer scams have become increasingly sophisticated, posing financial and emotional risks—especially for older adults, those with limited financial literacy, and clients experiencing stress or isolation.

This session will help social workers recognize common scam tactics, identify warning signs in clients’ experiences, and offer practical strategies and resources for prevention and recovery. Participants will also exchange ideas on building client awareness, strengthening resilience against manipulation, and connecting clients to appropriate reporting and support networks.

Before starting her consulting company, Sue led statewide initiatives as the Director of Strategic Partnerships at the CASH Campaign of Maryland for 16 years, managing projects, building coalitions, and creating financial education programs that reached thousands of individuals and families.
