A Message from Dean Judy Postmus to the SSW Community
I am writing to share the news that Dr. Samuel Little has made the decision to retire from his position as the Associate Dean and Director of Field Education at the SSW, effective September 1st. Dr. Little has been an valuable member of our team, nationally recognized for his expertise in field education as well as administering public housing programs. He has been at the helm of the Office of Field
Education since 2013.
Dr. Little's research interests and publications have revolved around important topics such as public housing, homelessness, and field education. Currently, he serves as a Co-Principal Investigator for Social Work Assistance and Stipends for Housing (SASH) and is collaborating with faculty at Howard University on research aimed at improving the health of children living in public
housing and enhancing resident council leadership. Furthermore, Dr. Little is the lead author, along with Laura Loessner and Mirian Ofonedu, of the upcoming book titled "Social Work Field Instruction in Modern Practice: A Handbook," to be published by the National Association of Social Workers Press later this year.
Dr. Little earned a BA from Morgan State University, an MSW from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD from the UMB SSW. Throughout his career, Dr. Little has held notable positions such as Associate Deputy Director at the Housing Authority of Baltimore City, Executive Director of Resident Services at the District of Columbia Housing Authority, and Executive Vice President for Resident and
Community Services at the Philadelphia Housing Authority. Before joining the faculty at the UMB SSW, he also was an Adjunct Professor for eight years at the Howard University School of Social Work in Washington, DC.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Samuel Little for his outstanding contributions to the SSW and the field of social work. His leadership, knowledge, and dedication have made a lasting impact on our students, colleagues, and the community at large. As we
bid farewell to Dr. Little, we wish him a fulfilling and joyful retirement, filled with new adventures and continued success in his endeavors.
